Party Hat Card Tutorial: Create Three Colorful Inlay Cards

Bright colors, playful patterns, and a reason to celebrate—this project has it all! There’s something so fun about creating bold, cheerful cards, and even better when you can get multiple designs from just one die.

Carrianne here! I’m excited to share how I created three party-themed cards using colorful cardstock and a simple inlay technique. By mixing and matching pink, purple, yellow, and teal, I was able to create a coordinated set that feels fun, bright, and perfect for any celebration.

Supplies & Materials

CutCardStock:

Other Supplies:

Concord & 9th - Party Hats Inlay Die
Altenew - Timeless Sentiments (Celebrate)
Pixie Dust Designs - Birthday Sentiments Dies
Bearly Art Glue

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Die Cut Your Panels
Die cut the party hats cover die from each of your cardstock colors:

  • DCS Raspberry Ice Pink
  • Pop-Tone Grape Jelly
  • DCS Caribbean Blue
  • DCS Yellow Jacket

This will give you multiple panels along with all the individual hat pieces for inlaying.

All cardstock colors and the party hats cover die ready to start creating.

Cut, sorted, and ready to assemble.

Step 2: Choose Your Background Panels

Select three panels to use as your card fronts. For this project, I used:

  • DCS Raspberry Ice Pink
  • Pop-Tone Grape Jelly
  • DCS Caribbean Blue

Set aside the yellow panel pieces to use as inlay accents.

Teal panel adhered to a white card base with the inlay pieces ready to be placed.

Step 3: Inlay the Hat Pieces

Begin filling in each panel with contrasting colors:

  • Raspberry Ice Pink panel: fill with Grape Jelly, Yellow Jacket, and Caribbean Blue pieces
  • Grape Jelly panel: fill with pink, yellow, and teal pieces
  • Caribbean Blue panel: fill with Raspberry Ice Pink, Yellow Jacket, and Grape Jelly pieces

Tip: Scatter the colors evenly across the panel for a balanced and playful look.

Close-up of the inlay process with colorful pieces being placed into the teal panel.

Step 4: Complete Panels

After assembling the inlay pieces on the first panel, repeat the process for the remaining two panels:

  • Fill the pink panel with your chosen combination of pieces, mixing in the pink, yellow, and purple inlay pieces for a fresh look.
  • Do the same for the purple panel, arranging the pieces so each card has its own personality while still coordinating with the set.
  • Once all pieces are in place, gently press everything down to make sure the inlay pieces are secure and flush with the panel.

All three panels completed with the colorful inlay design.

Step 5: Add Sentiments

Now that the panels are complete, it’s time to add some cheerful birthday sentiments! I mixed things up for each card to give some variety and inspiration:

  • Caribbean Blue panel: Used a Raspberry Ice Pink shadow with a white word die on top for a bright, crisp look.
  • Raspberry Ice Pink panel: Used a Grape Jelly shadow with a Yellow Jacket word die to make the sentiment pop.
  • Grape Jelly panel: The sentiment was created on a Grape Jelly strip with white heat embossing and placed at the top center for a playful, eye-catching twist.
Once the sentiments are in place, your cards are complete!

All the cardstock and word dies laid out for each panel—mixing shadows and die colors adds fun, playful variety to the set

Step 6: Finishing Touches

To complete the cards, I added a few playful embellishments to bring extra sparkle and dimension:

  • Applied a clear shimmer pen to select areas on the inlay pieces for a subtle shine.
  • Added coordinating enamel dots and sequins to enhance the cheerful design without overwhelming the colorful panels.
  • These small accents help the cards feel festive while keeping the focus on the bright, inlaid backgrounds.

All three completed cards together as a bright and cheerful set.

Creating multiple cards from one die is such a fun way to stretch your supplies! Adding the shimmer and little embellishments really helps each card pop. I hope this inspires you to mix and match your cardstock, try playful accents, and create your own colorful set.

I’d love to hear from you! Share your thoughts, favorite color combos, or any embellishment ideas in the comments—I always enjoy seeing what you create. Happy crafting!

Cozy Coffee Card with Newton’s Mug

There’s nothing better than combining cozy coffee shop vibes with adorable critters, and this card was so much fun to create!

For this design, I paired the sweet Newton’s Mug stamp set from Newton’s Nook Designs with patterned papers from the Coffee House Stories Paper Pad to create a warm and cheerful café-inspired card.

I’m also playing along with Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #252 and followed the current Inky Paws sketch, which made layering all the patterned papers and focal elements especially fun!

To start, I selected several patterns from the Coffee House Stories Paper Pad and layered them together following the sketch design. The mix of patterns creates a cozy coffeehouse feel while adding texture and visual interest to the card.

Next, I stamped and colored Newton from the Newton’s Mug stamp set, placing him inside the mug as the main focal point of the design. The layered patterned papers help frame the image and bring the sketch layout to life.

To assemble the card, I used Tape Runner adhesive to securely adhere all of the layers and elements into place. It made putting together the layered design quick and easy while keeping everything neat and secure.

I love how this card combines playful character images with warm café-inspired patterns for a cozy finished design. Following the Inky Paws sketch made the layout come together easily while still allowing plenty of room for layering and fun details.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and don’t forget to check out Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #252 for even more inspiration!

A Purr-fect Little Happy Mail Card

Nothing says happy mail quite like a pile of playful kittens! For this card, I had so much fun creating a layered sketch design featuring the adorable Smitten Kittens from Newton’s Nook Designs, paired with patterns from the Love & Meows Paper Pad.

I’m also playing along with Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #252, and the sketch made this design extra fun to build!

I started by following the sketch layout, which gave me a perfect guide for building a balanced, layered background. The patterned papers from the Love & Meows Paper Pad helped create a playful foundation full of texture and interest while still keeping the design clean and structured.

Next, I stamped and colored one of the sweet kittens from the Smitten Kittens set and popped it up with foam tape for added dimension. This little detail brings the focal image forward and gives the card a fun, dimensional feel.

To assemble everything, I used Tape Runner adhesive to securely layer all the patterned papers and elements together. It’s my go-to for keeping clean, crisp layers while building a multi-panel design.

The sentiment adds the perfect finishing touch of personality and charm.

This card was such a joy to create! I love how the sketch layout helps pull everything together while still leaving room for playful details and dimension. The combination of cute kittens, layered patterns, and a sweet sentiment makes this a perfect little piece of happy mail for any cat lover.

Bold Masculine Geometric YAY Birthday card | CutCardStock

Masculine cards can sometimes feel tricky — how do you keep them bold and interesting without adding too many embellishments? By leaning into strong graphic patterns and vibrant color contrast, you can create something modern, eye-catching, and full of energy.

Carrianne here, and today I’m sharing a bold geometric birthday card that combines layered cardstock and clean dimension for a striking masculine design.

Supplies & Materials

CutCardStock Cardstock:

Other Products Used:

Alex Syberia Designs Chevron Die
Altenew Bold Alphabet Dies
Sentiment Strip Die
Red ink
Die-cutting machine
Liquid Adhesive

Step 1: Die Cut the Modern Stripes Pieces

I began by die cutting the Modern Stripes Die from multiple cardstock colors to create the frame and insert pieces. Using the same die for all pieces ensures everything fits together perfectly when assembling the design.

The Modern Stripes Die from Alex Syberia Designs creates clean, geometric striping that works beautifully for bold, graphic card layouts.

Caption: Chevron die-cut pieces from Dolphin Gray, Red Hot and Wild Blueberry cardstock.

Step 2: Adhere the Frame to the Base

Next, I adhered the Dolphin Gray frame to the white base panel. (unsure if I should say Modern Stripes frame) This structured outline keeps the inserts in place and ensures a clean, professional finish. (In the first photo - I show 2 Dolphin Gray frames as I was going to use 2 frames for dimension but decided after adhered one that I did n't need the other one. Unsure if that should be mentioned for tutorial purposes.

Step 3: Insert the Modern Stripes Strips

Once satisfied with the layout, I began adhering the Red Hot and Wild Blueberry strips into the frame openings. I worked carefully section by section to keep everything aligned and crisp. Can we make this part a little more fun & engaging like a puzzle being put together or something.

Step 4: Create the Dimensional "YAY" Sentiment

To give the card a bold focal point, I die cut the word "YAY" three times from Red Hot and once from Dolphin Gray cardstock. The three red layers were stacked for dimension. The gray layer was slightly offset behind the red letters to create a subtle shadow effect.

Caption: Red Hot and Dolphin Gray die-cut letters for "YAY" with stacked layers and subtle shadow effect.

Step 5: Add the Sub-Sentiment

Next, I stamped a coordinating sub-sentiment in red ink onto Dolphin Gray and cut it out with a sentiment strip die. The strip was positioned directly beneath the centered "YAY", keeping the width aligned with the main word for a clean and balanced look.

Caption: Completed Modern Stripes panel with dimensional 'YAY' centered and sub-sentimentstrip ready to adhere.

Step 6: Add Embellishments and Finish

To enhance the celebratory feel without overpowering the modern stripes pattern, I added five metallic red stars two the the top left of the sentiment and three near the bottom right. This creates a diagonal flow and frames the focal point beautifully.

Final Thoughts

This design demonstrates how bold patterns and layered cardstock can create a striking masculine birthday card without heavy embellishments. Repeating key colors, keeping the layout structured, and using dimensional die-cut lettres ensures a cohesive, energetic, and modern look.

It’s Your Birthday - Go Wild!

Today’s card is bringing full-on safari celebration energy, and honestly… the jungle has never looked so festive.

This playful birthday scene came together using the Hello Bluebird Stamps - Summer Woods Scene Die, paired with the sweetest animals from Gerda Steiner Designs - Go Wild. Together, they create the perfect setting for a whimsical birthday moment deep in the jungle canopy.

I started by die cutting all the elements from the Summer Woods Scene Die, then added ink directly to the individual pieces after taking everything apart. This step really helped bring the scene to life.

Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn inks were used for the leaves and bushes, while Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo added grounding and dimension to the trunks and branches.

Once everything was inked and layered back together, I used a Watercolor Wash Rectangle Stencil to create soft blue, wave-like clouds in the background sky. This added a dreamy, fluid movement to the sky and created a beautiful contrast against the dense greenery below.

To finish the foliage, I added small green dots throughout the trees and bushes for extra texture and a natural, leafy look. It’s a simple detail, but it really helps everything feel more organic and lively.

The adorable animals from Go Wild were colored with Copic markers, keeping the palette soft and cohesive so they would stand out against the lush background without overwhelming it.

Each character brings its own personality into the scene, and coloring them is always the most fun part—this time it really felt like they were ready to throw a jungle birthday party.

Once the background and critters were ready, I assembled the full scene and added the sentiment.

It felt like the perfect finishing touch—fun, bold, and full of celebration energy.

The final card has lots of layering, soft ink blending, playful texture, and just the right amount of chaos (the good kind).

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this little safari celebration inspires you to get a bit wild with your next project.

Hearts, Sparkle, and Geese — A Card Full of Personality

Hi friends! In honor of National Mother Goose Day, celebrated on May 1st each year, I created this playful mini slimline card using Brutus Monroe goodies, including the Love Notes Paper Pad and the Love Goose stamp set from the January Subscription box!

National Mother Goose Day celebrates the beloved tradition of nursery rhymes and storytelling inspired by Mother Goose. These timeless tales have been passed down through generations, filled with whimsical characters, gentle humor, and nostalgic charm—making it such a fun theme to build a creative project around.

For the focal panel, I die-cut a heart and peekaboo windows from white cardstock and popped it up with thin foam tape for just a little lift — I love how a tiny bit of dimension can make such a big difference! To add a little extra sparkle and magic, I layered a sparkle overlay behind the panel so it shines through the heart and windows, catching the light in the most fun way.

The geese are my favorite part — I stamped, fussy cut, and popped them up over the windows, with the female goose taking center stage and the male geese positioned for balance and playful charm. I love how popping them over the openings adds depth and makes the scene feel alive.

To finish it off, I added the sentiment, “All My Love to My Favorite Goose,” stamped directly on the panel. It all comes together to create a card that’s full of fun, sparkle, dimension, and personality — and I can’t wait to send it to someone special!

Happy crafting!

Squeeze the Day: A Sweet Lemonade Inspired Card

There’s something about a glass of fresh lemonade on a warm day that just feels like pure happiness—sweet, refreshing, and full of simple joy. When I saw that May 4th is National Lemonade Day, I couldn’t resist creating a card inspired by that cheerful, easygoing vibe.

Today I’m sharing a playful card that captures a soft, sunny moment using the Squeeze the Day stamp set from My Favorite Things.

To start, I created a soft background using light ink blending, keeping the colors gentle and airy to reflect that fresh lemonade feel. I added a wonky frame die from Whimsy Stamps, cut to give the panel a bit of movement and interest without taking away from the scene.

For the bottom, I added a grassy border from La-La Land Crafts with subtle blending along the top edge to ground the design and create a little setting for the images.

The stamped images were colored with Copic markers, keeping the tones light and cohesive for a soft, cheerful look. I then popped them up with foam tape to add dimension and bring the scene to life.

Once everything was in place, I added the sentiment. It was stamped on white cardstock in Versafine Black ink, trimmed with a rectangle die, and popped up with thin foam tape for just a bit of dimension.

National Lemonade Day, celebrated on May 4th, is all about enjoying this classic refreshing drink—and for many, it’s also a nod to childhood memories of lemonade stands and sunny days.

Do you have a favorite warm-weather treat or memory that always makes you smile? I’d love to hear—let me know in the comments!
