Tropical Greetings with Fabulous Feathered Friends Stamp Set | Kat Scrappiness

Hi crafty friends!

I'm excited to share a fun tropical card featuring the adorable Feathered Friends Stamp Set from Kat Scrappiness! This bright and cheerful design comes together quickly with colorful patterned paper, a few die cuts, and a pop of dimension. Let's get started!

Kat Scrappiness Supplies Used:

  • Feathered Friends Stamp Set
  • Perfectly Plaid Aqua Paper Pad
  • Tropical Teal Cardstock
  • Distressed Edge Rectangle Craft Dies
  • Summer Fun Enamel Dots
Other:
  • White A2 Card Base
  • Copic Markers
  • Black Ink
  • Foam Tape
  • Adhesive
  • Die Cutting Machine

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Begin by gathering all of the supplies you'll need for today's project. Having everything ready before you begin makes the card come together quickly and easily.

Step 2: Create the Layered Background

Die cut a piece of Tropical Teal Cardstock using the Distressed Edge Rectangle Craft Dies (3.75" x 4.25"). The distressed edge adds just the right amount of texture and creates a beautiful frame for the patterned paper.

Step 3: Add the Patterned Paper

Trim a piece of plaid paper from the Perfectly Plaid Aqua Paper Pad to 3.5" x 4.25" and adhere it to the center of the teal die-cut panel, allowing the distressed edges to show above and below the patterned paper. Adhere the completed panel to a white A2 card base.

Stamp the image from the Feathered Friends Stamp Set, color it with Copic markers, and adhere it to the center of the plaid panel using foam tape for added dimension.

Step 4: Stamp the Sentiment

Stamp the sentiment in black ink below the patterned paper toward the right side of the card. This placement balances the focal image while keeping the design clean and uncluttered.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touches

Complete the card by adding a few Summer Fun Enamel Dots for a fun pop of color and a little extra shine.

I hope you enjoyed today's project! The bright plaid paper paired with the adorable tropical flamingos makes for a cheerful card that's perfect for sending a smile. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you're inspired to create something fun with the new Kat Scrappiness release.

Happy crafting!

Here's to the Next Chapter: A Soft and Colorful Wise Owl Card

Create a sweet and colorful card featuring a book-loving wise owl with a soft, modern color palette. I’m Carrianne, and today I’m sharing a step-by-step tutorial using CutCardStock papers to create this cheerful “Here’s to the Next Chapter” card. With soft pink, Caribbean blue, gray, kraft, and warm yellow accents, this design has plenty of color while still keeping a clean and cohesive look.

CutCardStock Products

  • DCS Dolphin Gray
  • DCS Caribbean Blue
  • DCS Pink Tutu
  • DCS Natural Twine Kraft
  • Pop Tone Banana Split
  • Classic Crest Solar White
  • Classic Crest Epic Black

Other Supplies

  • Spellbinders Wise Owl – Small Die of the Month, March 2024
  • Altenew Paper Echoes Stencil
  • La-La Land Crafts August KOTM (sentiment)
  • Nearly Art Glue
  • Foam adhesive
  • Die-cutting machine

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

First, gather the cardstock colors and supplies you'll need for the project. I chose a soft combination of Dolphin Gray, Caribbean Blue, Pink Tutu, Kraft, Banana Split, Solar White, and Epic Black.

The combination of soft pink and blue adds color to the design, while the gray and kraft tones keep everything grounded.

Step 2: Die Cut and Assemble the Owl and Book

Next, die cut the pieces for the owl and book from the selected CutCardStock colors.

For the owl, I used Pink Tutu, Dolphin Gray, Caribbean Blue, Classic Crest Solar White, and Classic Crest Epic Black to create a soft and colorful combination. I wanted the owl to have plenty of personality without introducing too many bright colors.

For the book, I used DCS Natural Twine Kraft, Classic Crest Solar White, and Pop Tone Banana Split. The warm kraft and yellow tones provide a nice contrast to the cooler colors of the owl.

After die cutting all of the pieces, adhere the layers together carefully. I kept the details clean and simple so that the individual cardstock colors remain easy to see.

Step 3: Create the Script Background

Once the focal pieces are assembled, it's time to create the background.

Trim a piece of DCS Dolphin Gray to approximately 4" × 5¼" so it will fit nicely onto an A2 card base with a narrow white border.

Then, place the Altenew Paper Echoes Stencil over the gray cardstock. Using a soft application of ink, stencil the script onto the panel. I kept the pattern subtle and allowed some areas to remain lighter so the background would provide texture without competing with the owl and book.

This subtle script is especially fitting for the design because it reinforces the reading and book theme.

Step 4: Adhere the Background Panel

After stenciling, adhere the Dolphin Gray panel directly to an A2 Classic Crest Solar White card base.

I chose not to add an additional mat layer. Instead, the narrow white border around the gray panel gives the card a clean, finished appearance while keeping the design soft and uncluttered.

Next, position the assembled owl and book toward the center of the card. Because the owl stands on the book, I treated these pieces as one focal point and positioned the grouping slightly above center to leave room for the sentiment underneath.

Step 5: Add Dimension

Once the placement is determined, adhere the book directly to the Dolphin Gray panel.

Next, add foam adhesive to the back of the owl and adhere it so that the owl sits slightly above the book. Because the owl stands on the book, this creates a natural layered effect while keeping the book grounded against the background.

I kept the dimension simple so the card remains easy to mail while still giving the focal point some depth.

Step 6: Add the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I used “Here’s to the Next Chapter.” The sentiment is printed in black on white cardstock and measures approximately 1¾" × ½".

Because the sentiment is arranged on two lines, it makes a compact little accent beneath the book. Trim the sentiment closely and adhere it flat to the card.

Center the sentiment underneath the owl rather than trying to match the width of the book. Since the book extends wider but is partially hidden behind the owl, this creates a pleasing visual taper from the wider book to the smaller sentiment.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Finally, check the card for any loose pieces or areas that need a little additional adhesive.

I kept the embellishments to a minimum so the colorful cardstock and die-cut details remain the focus. The combination of the soft script background, dimensional owl, and warm book creates a cheerful design with a cozy reading theme.

A Soft and Colorful Take on a Book-Lover Card

I love how the different CutCardStock colors work together on this design. The Pink Tutu and Caribbean Blue give the owl a soft pop of color, while Dolphin Gray provides a calm backdrop. Meanwhile, the Kraft, Solar White, and Banana Split on the book add warmth and keep the overall design balanced.

Most importantly, the subtle script background adds interest without overwhelming the focal point. The dimensional owl and book then bring the design to life, while the simple sentiment completes the card with a thoughtful finishing touch.

This would make a wonderful card for a book lover, someone starting a new chapter, or simply anyone who deserves a little encouragement.

Vintage Christmas | Brutus Monroe

Frosty Christmas inspiration!  I had so much fun creating this frosty winter scene with the Vintage Christmas Stamp!  I started with watercolor cardstock and Blue Aqua Pigment, adding a little water and smooshing the panel into the pigment to create a soft, icy background. I love how beautifully the color spread across the cardstock and created that frosty feel!

I then heat embossed the vintage Christmas foliage in white, which really made the images pop against the blue.  A little gold, white, and blue splatter added some extra sparkle, and I finished it off with a few clear iridescent sequins for even more shimmer.

I love how this one came together—it feels like a little piece of a snowy Christmas day!

YAY! Christmas is Gnoming | Kat Scrappiness New Release

Sometimes a card just needs a little YAY! — especially when Christmas is Gnoming!

For this card, I combined a bold word die with a cheerful Santa gnome, snowy details, and a little red-and-white Christmas color to create a fun and festive card with plenty of personality.

Products Used:

  • Double Diamond Rectangle Die
  • YAY Word & Shadow Die
  • Winter Wonderland Snow Globe Craft Die — snowflakes
  • Christmas Gnomies Stamp Set
  • Scarlet Bloom Cardstock
  • Smooth Bright White Cardstock
  • Snowfall Grit Paste
  • Distress ink - Tumble Glass
  • Foam tape
  • Copic markers

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

I started by gathering all the products and supplies I would need for my card.

Step 2: Die Cut the Card Layers

I die cut the Double Diamond Rectangle from Scarlet Bloom Cardstock and used the coordinating stitched rectangle die to cut the white focal panel.

Step 3: Create the Snowy Background

For the white focal panel, I added soft blue shading along the bottom to create the look of a snowy ground. I kept the rest of the panel clean and white to give the card a bright winter feel.

Step 4: Add Some Snowy Texture

For a little extra wintery texture, I die cut several snowflakes from cardstock and added soft blue shading to them.

Then I used Distress Snowfall Grit Paste to give the snowflakes a fun, snow-covered texture. I used the negative cardstock left from die cutting the snowflakes as a little stencil. I placed the snowflakes back into their negative spaces and applied the grit paste over them.

Once the paste was removed, the snowflakes had a beautiful snowy texture that was ready to add to the card.

Step 5: Create the YAY!

Now for the fun part! I die cut the YAY! from Scarlet Bloom Cardstock and assembled the word onto its Smooth Bright White shadow.

I love how the white shadow makes the bright red sentiment really pop!

Step 6: Assemble the Card Layers

I adhered the red Double Diamond Rectangle to a white A2 card base measuring 4¼" × 5½".

I then adhered the white stitched focal panel directly to the red frame.

Step 7: Color the Gnome

Next up was my little Christmas gnome! I stamped the image and colored him with Copics, keeping the colors festive and traditional to coordinate with the rest of the card.

Step 8: Add the YAY!

I positioned the YAY! at an angle toward the top of the focal panel, allowing it to extend slightly over the red Double Diamond frame.

I popped the YAY! up with foam tape to give the large sentiment some extra dimension.

Step 9: Finish the Scene

I heat embossed the “Christmas is Gnoming” sentiment onto a black cardstock strip and adhered it beneath the YAY!, leaving a little breathing room between the two sentiments.

I then added my snowflakes and positioned the little gnome toward the bottom of the card, giving him a little dimension with foam tape.

With the snowy details, festive colors, and cheerful gnome, this card came together with just the right amount of Christmas fun!

And there you have it — a little YAY! for Christmas and a whole lot of gnome-approved holiday cheer! 🎄🧙‍♂️❄️

Christmas is Gnoming… and I'm definitely saying YAY!

Coffee, Quokkas & a Little Masking Magic | Kat Scrappiness

I love when a few simple stamped images can come together to create an entire little scene—and masking makes it possible without adding a single layer of cardstock!

For this card, I combined the adorable Coffee Quokka Stamp Set with images from the Build a Scene Stamp Set and a sentiment from the Crafty Fun Sentiments to create a cheerful one-layer scene. The masking technique lets the quokka sit naturally in front of the tree while keeping the whole design on one card panel.

Products Used:

Coffee Quokka Stamp Set
Build a Scene Stamp Set
Crafty Fun Sentiments Stamp Set

White cardstock
Post-it for masking
Copic markers
Black stamping ink

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

I started by gathering all of the products and supplies I would need to create my one-layer scene.

Step 2: Stamp the Quokka

I started by stamping the adorable Coffee Quokka onto my card panel. This image will be the first layer of my scene and will help determine where I place the other stamped elements.

I stamped the quokka onto the Post-it paper and carefully cut around the image and placed it over my stamped image on the panel.

Step 3: Stamp the Tree

I placed the mask over the stamped quokka and then stamped the tree from the Build a Scene Stamp Set.

Step 4: Reveal the Quokka

I carefully removed the mask to reveal the quokka sitting in front of the tree. This is always my favorite part of masking—you get to see the scene take shape!

Step 5: Mask the Quokka and Tree

Next, I masked both the quokka and part of the tree so I could add the grass without stamping over either image.

Step 6: Stamp the Grass

With both masks in place, I stamped the grass along the bottom of the panel. Once the grass was stamped, I removed the masks to reveal the completed foundation of the scene.

Step 7: Add the Details

To finish the stamped scene, I added the clouds and rock from the Build a Scene Stamp Set, along with a sentiment from the Crafty Fun Sentiments set.

Step 8: Add Color

With all of the stamping finished, I colored the scene with Copic markers. Adding color brought the little outdoor setting to life and made the Coffee Quokka really stand out.

I love how masking creates the look of a layered scene while keeping the card completely flat. The Coffee Quokka, Build a Scene, and Crafty Fun Sentiments work together to create such a fun and cheerful little scene.

If you haven’t tried masking before, it’s a great technique for turning a few stamped images into an entire scene—all on one card panel!

Happy stamping and crafty fun!

A Dancing Ghost Halloween Card with a Fun Interactive Surprise

Hello, crafty friends! Halloween is such a fun time of year to create playful cards filled with cute characters and unexpected details. I’m Carrianne, and today I’m sharing a sweet Halloween ghost card created for the CutCardStock blog featuring an adorable dancing ghost, bright Halloween colors, and a fun interactive element. This card was made especially for my 10-month-old grandson, so I wanted it to feel cheerful, colorful, and full of personality.

The Spellbinders Dancing Ghost die set made the perfect focal point for this design. By combining colorful CutCardStock papers, a bold sunburst background, and layered die cuts, this Halloween card came together with a fun surprise that makes the ghost appear to dance right on the card front.

Supplies Used

CutCardStock

  • Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock

  • DCS Pink Tutu Cardstock

  • Lessebo Flame Orange Cardstock

  • Pop Tone Grape Jelly Cardstock

  • Classic Crest Epic Black Cardstock

Other Supplies

  • Spellbinders Dancing Ghost Die Set

  • Spellbinders Boo Dance Party Sentiments

  • Poppy Stamps Tiny Sentiments Banners

  • Concord & 9th Sunburst Card Front Die

  • Foam adhesive

Step 1: Create the Sunburst Background

I started by cutting the Concord & 9th Sunburst Card Front Die from a panel of DCS Pink Tutu Cardstock. This cover die creates a fun burst pattern while keeping the background clean and modern.

The pink background adds a playful twist to a traditional Halloween color palette and creates the perfect backdrop for the white dancing ghost.

Step 2: Die Cut and Assemble the Ghost Pieces

Next, I die cut all of the pieces from the Spellbinders Dancing Ghost Die Set.

The ghost body was cut from Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. For a fun Halloween pop of color, I created the striped legs using Lessebo Flame Orange and Pop Tone Grape Jelly Cardstock.

To add detail to the ghost’s face, I used Classic Crest Epic Black Cardstock behind the eye openings. Adding the black cardstock behind the openings gives the ghost a bold expression and helps the details stand out.

All die-cut pieces assembled and ready to build the card.

The back of the die cuts showing how the black cardstock was added behind the ghost eyes and pumpkin face openings.

Step 3: Add Candy to the Pumpkin Treat Bag

The Dancing Ghost Die Set includes adorable Halloween accessories, including a pumpkin treat bag and candy pieces.

I die cut the pumpkin from Lessebo Flame Orange Cardstock and created the candy pieces using a combination of orange, purple, and white cardstock. For one candy piece, I added pink shading to a white base to coordinate with the Pink Tutu background.

The candies were tucked into the opening at the top of the pumpkin bag. To keep them securely in place, I added adhesive to the back of the pumpkin.

Candy pieces placed inside the pumpkin treat bag.

Step 4: Assemble the Card Panel

Once the background and die-cut pieces were complete, I adhered the Pink Tutu sunburst panel to a Classic Crest Solar White card base.

The white card base keeps the design bright and allows the colorful Halloween details to stand out.

The completed background panel attached to the card base.

Step 5: Create the Interactive Dancing Ghost

The fun part of this Halloween ghost card is the interactive dimension!

I placed the ghost legs onto the card panel first. The legs include a circle opening, which I used to my advantage by placing a round foam adhesive dot inside the opening to help hold the ghost in place while allowing dimension.

After positioning the ghost body, I added additional foam adhesive to balance and level the ghost. This creates a raised effect and gives the dancing ghost a fun, dimensional appearance.

The ghost and legs positioned on the card to plan the interactive placement.

The ghost removed to show the legs attached to the card panel and the foam adhesive placement.

Step 6: Add the Sentiment and Finishing Touches

To finish the card, I added the “Hey Little Boo” sentiment from the Spellbinders Boo Dance Party Sentiments.

The short greeting perfectly matches the playful personality of the dancing ghost and keeps the focus on the cute Halloween design.

Finished Halloween ghost card.

Final Thoughts

I love how this Halloween ghost card combines bright colors, simple layers, and a fun interactive element. The unexpected pink background gives the traditional Halloween palette a cheerful twist, while the orange and purple details bring everything together.

The Dancing Ghost was the perfect little character for this design, and I hope this card brings a smile to my grandson’s face when he receives it.

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope this project inspires you to create your own playful Halloween cards using colorful cardstock, die cuts, and a little imagination.

Happy crafting!
