Coffee, Quokkas & a Little Masking Magic | Kat Scrappiness

I love when a few simple stamped images can come together to create an entire little scene—and masking makes it possible without adding a single layer of cardstock!

For this card, I combined the adorable Coffee Quokka Stamp Set with images from the Build a Scene Stamp Set and a sentiment from the Crafty Fun Sentiments to create a cheerful one-layer scene. The masking technique lets the quokka sit naturally in front of the tree while keeping the whole design on one card panel.

Post-it for masking
Copic markers
Black stamping ink

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

I started by gathering all of the products and supplies I would need to create my one-layer scene.

Step 2: Stamp the Quokka

I started by stamping the adorable Coffee Quokka onto my card panel. This image will be the first layer of my scene and will help determine where I place the other stamped elements.

I stamped the quokka onto the Post-it paper and carefully cut around the image and placed it over my stamped image on the panel.

Step 3: Stamp the Tree

I placed the mask over the stamped quokka and then stamped the tree from the Build a Scene Stamp Set.

Step 4: Reveal the Quokka

I carefully removed the mask to reveal the quokka sitting in front of the tree. This is always my favorite part of masking—you get to see the scene take shape!

Step 5: Mask the Quokka and Tree

Next, I masked both the quokka and part of the tree so I could add the grass without stamping over either image.

Step 6: Stamp the Grass

With both masks in place, I stamped the grass along the bottom of the panel. Once the grass was stamped, I removed the masks to reveal the completed foundation of the scene.

Step 7: Add the Details

To finish the stamped scene, I added the clouds and rock from the Build a Scene Stamp Set, along with a sentiment from the Crafty Fun Sentiments set.

Step 8: Add Color

With all of the stamping finished, I colored the scene with Copic markers. Adding color brought the little outdoor setting to life and made the Coffee Quokka really stand out.

I love how masking creates the look of a layered scene while keeping the card completely flat. The Coffee Quokka, Build a Scene, and Crafty Fun Sentiments work together to create such a fun and cheerful little scene.
