Skating Into the Holidays | Poppy Stamps

I’m excited to be joining Poppystamps as a guest designer, and this adorable skating bear was just too much fun to pass up! I created a sweet Nordic-inspired winter scene filled with snow, ice, and a little pop of pink.

I started by coloring the Nordic Skating Bear Craft Die and gave him a cozy sweater cut from a fun pink polka-dot patterned paper. I love the little pop of warmth it adds against the cool winter colors.

For the background, I blended Prize Ribbon and Tumbled Glass to create a soft, wintry sky. I then added splatters of water and white ink to give the impression of falling snow. The subtle variation in the blue makes the background feel a little more magical without taking attention away from the bear.

Next, I created the snowy foreground using two snow drifts. I cut a thin oval opening into the upper drift to create a little icy pond for the bear to skate on. I added some blue ink around the edges of the pond and layered the two snow drifts together before popping the entire snowy foreground up onto the sky panel.

I also used the Trimmed Trees Craft Die to cut a few evergreen trees, tucking them behind the snow drifts on either side of the bear. They add just the right amount of depth and help create the feeling of a cozy little winter landscape for him to skate through.

For the sentiment, I stamped a bold Christmas greeting in a coordinating medium blue ink onto white cardstock and used the matching die to cut it out. Keeping the sentiment white and blue helps tie it into the snowy background while allowing the pink sweater to remain the warm pop of color.

I love how this little winter scene came together! The soft blue sky, snowy layers, icy pond, and sweet pop of pink on the bear’s sweater create such a cozy Nordic feel. This was such a fun one to create, and I hope it brings a little winter inspiration your way!
