A Winter Birdhouse Wrapped in Warmth | Elizabeth Craft Designs

There’s something about the start of winter that brings out the inner kid in all of us. Maybe it’s the memory of peeking outside to see the first snowflakes fall, or the way neighborhoods suddenly glow with twinkling lights. For me, it’s that cozy excitement of pulling out new crafty goodies after a very successful Black Friday sale… and diving straight into a festive project I can’t wait to share.

Today’s card is exactly that — a mix of fresh inspiration and holiday charm, featuring the Elizabeth Craft Designs Holiday Birdhouse paired with the Florals 12. These two dies work beautifully together and bring such a dimensional, storybook feel to a winter scene.

I started by die-cutting all the elements from Cardstock Warehouse cardstock — the kraft tones for the house itself, a deep cranberry for the roof, beautiful pine greens for the holly, and bright festive reds for the poinsettias. For extra texture and dimension, I pressed the birdhouse using the Altenew Essential Textures: Fine Woodgrain Press Plate/Foil Plates. It added the perfect subtle woodgrain look and really brought the birdhouse to life.

To add depth, I ink-blended the background in soft winter blues and splattered it with white paint and shimmer for a snowy, frosty effect. The whole panel is popped up on foam tape, and I added a crisp white mat before mounting it to a cranberry card base — a combo that really brings out the holiday palette.

The tiny doves, snow drift, and holly leaves were arranged around the birdhouse to create a cozy, perched-in-the-snow moment. The Florals 12 was layered and shaped for fullness, then tucked near the house for a pop of festive red. A white gel pen added the perfect finishing touches — little highlights that make everything look extra polished and frosty.

To complete the card, I heat-embossed the sentiment in gold on white cardstock and placed it along the bottom of the panel. It adds elegance without overpowering the focal point.

Everything came together so beautifully — warm reds, snowy whites, rustic textures, and a little sparkle — just the kind of paper-crafted moment that makes holiday creating so magical. It’s amazing how a few die-cuts and some carefully chosen colors can build a whole winter story.

If you’re in the mood for a festive project with layers, texture, and charm, this birdhouse set is such a joy to work with… and let’s be honest, Black Friday deals always make creating even more fun!
