Hi everyone! I’m excited to share a cheerful coffee-themed card I created featuring a sweet little owl enjoying a cozy cup of coffee, layered papers, and fun colors that make it pop. I’ll walk you through step by step so you can recreate it yourself!
Step 1: Prepare the Background
I started with a brown card base and trimmed the coffee cup patterned paper to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 inches. Using Tape Runner Adhesive, I secured it to the card base for a smooth, clean layer.
Next, I cut a strip of coffee bean patterned paper to 1.5 x 4.25 inches and adhered it horizontally across the center of the background mat with Tape Runner adhesive. This strip adds texture and serves as a grounding element for the focal panel.
Step 2: Stamp, Color, and Fussy Cut the Owl
I stamped the Don’t Give a Hoot owl image on white cardstock and colored it with Copic markers — shades of brown for the owl and mint green for the coffee mug to coordinate with the cups in the patterned paper. The sentiment attached to the stamp was colored in soft orange. Once colored, I fussy cut the owl and sentiment.
Step 3: Die-Cut and Prep the Focal Panel
For the photos, I used a fishtail banner behind the owl to show general placement. For the final card, I swapped it out for a mint stitched circle, 3.5”, which frames the owl beautifully and ties in the mint accents from the mug and patterned paper. I used Tape Runner adhesive to attach the circle to the background.
Step 4: Assemble the Card
For the photos, I used a fishtail banner behind the owl to show general placement. For the final card, I swapped it out for a mint stitched circle, 3.5”, which frames the owl beautifully and ties in the mint accents from the mug and patterned paper. I used Tape Runner adhesive to attach the circle to the background.
Step 5: Add Finishing Touches
To finish, I added a few small enamel dots or sequins around the owl for subtle dimension. All of these were secured using Tape Runner adhesive, making layering quick, clean, and mess-free.
Final Thoughts
This card combines warm browns, mint, and soft orange for a cozy, cheerful feel. Small details like precise mats, layered textures, and subtle embellishments bring dimension, charm, and a polished finish to a simple card.
