Can you believe it’s time for another Caroling Christmas Cards hop? I always look forward to this creative challenge — it’s such a wonderful way to keep the holiday spirit alive all year long! Each month, we take inspiration from classic Christmas songs and turn those festive tunes into handmade holiday cards. This month, our musical muses were “The Holly and the Ivy” and “Sleigh Ride.”
As soon as I saw Sleigh Ride on the list, I could practically hear the jingling bells and see Santa dashing through the snow! That cheerful, wintry energy was exactly the inspiration I needed for my next card.
To set the mood, I blended Distress Oxide inks in Blueprint Sketch and Salty Ocean across my background to create a crisp winter sky. To give the sky some extra depth and movement, I added white paint splatters and water droplets — they look just like gently falling snow! Next, I die cut snow drifts for the bottom of the scene and added a few fluffy clouds near the top for balance and texture.
Once the background was ready, I placed Santa and his sleigh front and center, with the elves helping to spread Christmas cheer. For the finishing touch, I stamped the sentiment “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” in crisp black ink on white cardstock, die cut it with the coordinating die, and popped it up on foam tape for some extra dimension.
I love how this card captures the magic and excitement of the holiday season — you can almost hear the sleigh bells ringing! It’s such a joy to create cards inspired by music; it makes every design feel alive with the rhythm and warmth of the season.
